One of my pieces of work, the bag with the mayfly and flower embroidered on to it, has been chosen to advertise the foundation course i did last year in both the prospectus and the prospectus roll up, ive popped a photograph of the roll up underneath, my work is the top right hand corner :) It's really nice to have been chosen for advertisement of the course !

Badge it!

Hello! Yes, yet another blog post today...
I'm just really excited about badges!! I've been thinking about packaging to go alongside my purses, as i said in the previous post, and i've got loads of ideas on how to present my products if they ever sell. I've decided to have a look at some little quirky bits and bobs to go with them as a sort of thankyou note for buying them, and i thought what better than a cute badge! So i drew some urchins out on my koda trace and printed them onto twill wool with a pigment dye (1tsp turquoise and half a tsp of white). I've always had a thing for badges, i have a cork board at home full of badges bearing all my favourite bands, writers, artists, and i've always loved fabric badges that companys such as Poppy Treffry make and thought i would give it a go! So i've included a couple of pictures (one of them featuring me, looking pretty pleased with myself indeed!). Bearing in mind this is only a test badge, and i have lots more ideas for designs and so on :)

Minor Project

Afternoon!
I've been working hard on the design development for my bags, and i've came up with a few sample layouts, and then in the end my final one. I've been sampling all week, which i've actually found really difficult, using different techniques such as screenprinting, painting with pastes, machine embroidery and hand embroidery. I still can't seem to get it just how i want it but i think i'm starting to finally get some where!

I've also been getting really excited about the packaging that i want to go with my purses. This weekend i am hoping to test some layouts for gift boxes, and i am looking forward to playing around with the aesthetic qualities of this, but i wont say much more there! Anyhoo, i thought i would put a picture of some embroidery up on here, I would really appreciate any thoughts or feedback, might give me a bit of much needed help!

ClubZINE!

Last night i attended a group called ClubZine. It was the first session and it was really fun! We basically got to know what a 'zine' is, how they are made, why they are made, what is in them and how do they circulate. The session was three hours long and basically for the first six weeks of the course we are working in groups making a zine together and then after that we are going to spend six weeks on our own individual zines (which i am really excited about!!) I really enjoyed it which was a nice surprise because i was a bit apprehensive about going at first, i didnt know anhyone else that was going and im not the most skilled when it comes to making new friends but i met some really nice people and we came up for some really cool ideas for our first zine :) So! watch this space for any upcoming work i put up from the zines and if anyone has any zines of their own i would love to see them :) I've included some websites at the bottom of the page to introduce you to the overall theme of a zine!

Long time no post

Hello!!
It's been a while since i posted, what with a (stressful) start to third year! It's quite daunting, and i cant quite believe it has come round this fast (!) but its a new start and im determined to do the best as i can. My aim (as probably so is everybody elses) is end the year with a BOOM and gain a First in my Honours Degree. Although this aim probably isnt...whats the word im looking for...realistic! i would certainly like to end it with a 2:1. SO! in order to acheive this it is work work work for me. This year i feel incredibly motivated and in the previous projects, even I feel that i didnt put my all into it but still acheived quite good results in both my practical and written based work (except that damn essay i did about propaganda during world war II, that was hard!!), therefore i am determined to i am going to do exceedingly good!! My good friend Hannah, a fellow Harry Potter geek, would probably insist i work towards 'Exceeds Expectations' or 'Outstanding' (haha).
I dont have much new work photographed so I havent got much to post today but i will try and keep it updated. I'm much more excited for the practical side of things (getting stuck into the actual surface design! Embroidery, Printing, Painting straight onto fabric, Machine stitch, Applique (including shadow applique) and the list goes on. When i start the design development i will probably update this much more with photographs as i go along because i can imagine i am going to be much more pleased with the results than with my basic drawings! Anyhoo, instead of boring you poor souls i will leave you with a new image of a small basic line drawing of a sea urchin, on a painted background with Brusho (my favourite media at the minute!!)
